1990 to 1998. An 80 suits a buyer who wants a simple, tough wagon for towing and off road use and is happy to pay for a specialist inspection first.

Big jobs

1HD-T big end bearings. The 12 valve 1HD-T turbo diesel is reported to have had big end bearing trouble from the factory, so specialists want to see the bottom end checked or rebuilt.
1HZ with an added turbo. The 1HZ was never turbocharged from the factory, so any turbo is an aftermarket addition that needs a closer look.
Manual gearbox and transfer case. Crunching on downchanges into 2nd and 1st is usually the first sign of manual gearbox trouble. A transfer box that is too tight can be expensive to fix.

Chassis cracks at the steering box. Cracking of the chassis around the steering box mount is widely reported, more so on trucks with bigger tyres or hard off road use.

Power steering leaks. Power steering leaks are common. Specialists say to check the reservoir seals first before blaming the hoses or the steering box.
Rear axle studs and handbrake. Rear axle studs can snap after rough use, and weak handbrakes are common.
