Toyota GR Yaris buying guide
2020 to now. A GR Yaris suits a driver who wants a rally bred hatch and will check it carefully if it has seen track days.
Workshop jobs
- AWD centre clutch on track. Some owners report the centre clutch pack in the AWD system overheating on track, which disconnects the rear axle.
- Front bumper and grille mesh. Corner damage means a whole new front bumper, and the plastic lower grille mesh breaks when hit by gravel.
Small jobs
- Limp mode after refuelling. Limp mode and warning lights after a fuel stop are usually caused by a fuel cap not tightened enough.
- Gearbox linkage. Popping out of 2nd and a notchy 1st to 2nd change are reported and were fixed by adjusting the cable linkage.
- Caliper dust boots and brake whistle. Caliper dust boots are known to melt under hard use, and a rear brake whistle is usually dirt on the pad corners.
- Radar sensor recall. The only known recall affecting all cars covered patchy start up of the radar sensor for adaptive cruise.
Questions for the seller
- Has the car been on track, and how often?
- Does it have the Circuit Pack?
- Have all recalls been completed?
- Has it been remapped or modified?
