Toyota Corolla E210 buying guide
2018 to now. An E210 Corolla suits a buyer who wants a frugal, dependable car, especially the hybrid, and checks the recall record.
Workshop jobs
- Oil use at higher km. Cars past about 80,000 km can use a little more oil.
Small jobs
- CVT torque converter recall (petrol). Toyota recalled early CVT petrol cars over fears of torque converter failure that could cut drive to the wheels.
- High pressure fuel pump recall. A 2021 UK recall replaced high pressure fuel pumps that could be damaged over time on cars built up to October 2019.
- EVAP warning light (1.8 hybrid). On the 1.8 hybrid a check light can come on, traced to the EVAP system.
- Parking scrapes and wheel scuffs. Parking scrapes, alloy wheel scuffs and child damage inside are the main things to look for.
- Infotainment version. The early infotainment is dated, and it was improved in 2020 and again in 2022.
Questions for the seller
- Is it the hybrid or the 2.0 petrol CVT?
- Have the CVT and fuel pump recalls been done where they apply?
- Has it shown any warning lights?
- Is it NZ new or a Japanese import?
