Suzuki Swift ZC72 and ZC82 buying guide
2010 to 2017. A ZC72 Swift suits a buyer who wants a cheap, reliable and fun small hatch and checks the recall record.
Small jobs
- Torque converter bolt recall (autos). A loose bolt securing the torque converter on automatic and CVT cars led to a recall.
- Rear brake leak recall. A potential leak point on the rear brakes was the only NZ recall for this model, according to Driven.
- Fuel clamp and steering box cover recalls (Australia). Australian recalls covered a fuel system clamp that could leak and a steering box cover that could let moisture in.
- Parking damage and wheels. Parking damage, kerbed wheels and scraped bumpers are common and show how a car has been treated.
- Safety equipment on imports. NZ new cars rate 5 stars on ANCAP, but imports can have fewer airbags, so count them.
- Cabin squeaks and rattles. The cabin is cheap and cheerful with lots of hard plastic, and surface squeaks and rattles are common but nothing to worry about.
Questions for the seller
- Is it the 1.2 import or the 1.4 NZ new car, and manual, auto or CVT?
- Has the torque converter bolt recall been done on an auto?
- Has the rear brake recall been done?
- How many airbags does it have?
