Suzuki Jimny JB74 buying guide
2018 to now. A JB74 Jimny suits a buyer who wants a small, tough 4WD with character and checks the recall record and underside.
Workshop jobs
- Underside damage from off road use. Plastic shrouds hide most underbody parts, so heavy off road use needs a proper look underneath.
- 4WD selector and part time 4WD. The part time 4WD is selected with a separate lever for 2WD, 4WD high and 4WD low, and uses traction control in place of locking diffs.
Small jobs
- Fuel pump recall (2018 builds). A July 2021 recall replaced fuel pumps with sub standard parts on cars built May to November 2018, which could starve the engine of fuel.
- Airbag wiring loom recall. A July 2021 recall replaced sub standard wiring looms on cars built May 2018 to December 2020 that could stop the airbags going off.
- Rear door hinges. The side hinged rear door can wear over time, especially as it carries the spare wheel.
Questions for the seller
- Have the fuel pump and airbag loom recalls been done?
- Has it been off road, and how hard?
- Is it manual or auto?
- Has it been lifted or modified, and is there LVVTA paperwork?
