Nissan Patrol Y62 buying guide
2010 to now. A Y62 Patrol suits a buyer who wants a smooth V8 tow wagon and accepts the fuel bill.
Big jobs
- Automatic gearbox when towing. Some owners report odd shifting, mostly when towing in hot weather. Nissan calls the fluid lifetime fill, but CarAdvice suggests a change about every 30,000 km.
- Underbody damage from off road use. Y62s may have been used hard, so check the chassis rails, diffs, axles, floorpan and suspension arms.
Workshop jobs
- Sump vulnerable to rock strikes. The engine sump appears vulnerable to rock strikes.
- Lift kits and rear alignment. The independent rear suspension makes lifting hard, and a lift can upset the wheel alignment and wear tyres faster.
- Brakes, tyres and modified trucks. The weight wears brakes and tyres quickly, and modified trucks with superchargers or body kits are best avoided where possible.
Small jobs
- Fuel pressure sensor recall. A recall covered a fuel pressure sensor that can loosen and possibly cause a fuel leak under the bonnet.
Questions for the seller
- Has it towed in hot weather, and has the gearbox fluid been changed?
- Has it been used off road, and has the sump been hit?
- Is it lifted or modified, and is there certification?
- Has the fuel pressure sensor recall been done?
