Nissan Navara D23 NP300 buying guide
2015 to now. A D23 suits a buyer who wants a comfortable coil sprung ute and checks the rear springs and turbo.
Big jobs
- Turbo. Turbo failures are an ever present threat and hard to spot until close to failing. One turbo pipe seal can only be replaced with the whole pipe from Nissan.
- Chassis and 4WD use. A few owners report bent chassis parts after overloading, caravan towing or fast corrugations, and using 4WD high range on dry hard surfaces can damage the driveline.
Workshop jobs
- Rear coil springs (Series 1). The rear coil spring suspension on early utes sags under heavy loads or persistent towing, which also makes the steering light and vague. Nissan fitted uprated springs from the Series 2 update.
- Engine oil leaks. Oil leaks are the main engine issue, most often from the sump gasket, the rear main seal and the transmission outputs.
- Body control module and accessory wiring. The body control module is described as touchy, so aftermarket lights should be wired by a qualified auto electrician.
Small jobs
- Lower radiator hose recall. The lower radiator hose can rub on a pulley, and there has been a recall.
Questions for the seller
- Is it a Series 1 or a later ute with the uprated rear springs?
- What has it towed or carried?
- Has the lower radiator hose recall been done?
- Who wired any light bars or accessories?
- Has the turbo been replaced?
