Mercedes Benz GLE V167 buying guide
2019 to now. A V167 suits a family that wants a modern, well equipped large SUV and will check every recall has been done.
Small jobs
- Weld quality recalls. Three recalls covered poor welds: the fuel filler, a stud on the floorpan and the rear crossmember, which needed replacing.
- Air conditioning drain hoses. Several recalls covered drain hoses that may be fitted wrongly, so condensation can cause electrical faults and a fire risk.
- 48 volt wiring nuts under the seats. Recalls covered loose nuts on the 48 volt system under the front seats and on a 12 volt harness, which can raise resistance and risk a fire.
- Diesel coolant leak recall. A recall covered OM654 diesels where coolant may leak into the vacuum circuit, a fire risk.
- Transmission software and fuel delivery. Recalls covered transmission software that could stop downshifts and cause a sudden loss of power, and a fuel delivery unit that could fail on 2021 and 2022 trucks.
- Door trim, seatbelt and eCall faults. Recalls covered rear door window trim that can come adrift, a second row seatbelt buckle that can slide under the cushion, and eCall software.
Questions for the seller
- Which engine is it: 300 d, 400 d, 450, 53 or 63, or a plug in hybrid?
- Have all recalls been done? Can I see the dealer printout?
- Does it have seven seats?
- Is any factory warranty or service plan left?
- Has it towed heavy loads?
