Mercedes AMG C 63 W205 buying guide
2015 to 2021. A W205 C 63 suits a driver who wants a twin turbo V8 that works every day and will keep up with tyres and fluids.
Workshop jobs
- Comand infotainment and Blind Spot Assist. The Comand system could freeze completely, and one side of Blind Spot Assist can stop working if a sensor fails.
- Tyres and brakes. Tyres rarely last much past 15,000 miles even in moderate use, and fronts can wear as fast as rears. Steel discs and pads cost about 700 pounds a set in the UK, and carbon fronts were an option.
Small jobs
- Steering and airbag recalls. Recalls have been issued for faults in the steering, and there have been airbag recalls.
- Stop start auxiliary battery. The auxiliary battery for the stop start system has been known to fail.
- Creaking sunroof, seals and trim. W205 cars had creaking sunroofs and door seals, Night Package black trim could work loose and black interior trim scratches easily.
- Diff and gearbox fluids. Diff and gearbox fluid changes cost about 300 pounds in the UK, and Mercedes service plans include the diff oil.
Questions for the seller
- Is it a C 63 or C 63 S, and sedan, wagon, coupe or cabriolet?
- Have all recalls been done, including steering and airbags?
- When were the diff oil and gearbox fluid last changed?
- Has it been tuned or tracked?
- Has the stop start battery been replaced?
